Allosaurus is a large therapod dinosaur that lived in the late Jurrasic period. Allosaurus means different lizard and is derived from Greek. Allosaurus was at the top of the food chain preying on plant eating dinosaurs as well as other predatory dinosaurs. Allosaurus was the most common large theropod found in the Western American rock formation known as the Morrison Formation. Allosaurus, along with T-Rex, represents the quintessential large carnivorous dinosaur in popular culture. It is even the official state fossil of Utah.
